I Regret My Membership of Niger Delta Avengers,
Arrested Suspect Confesses
An unfortunate member of the Niger Delta Avengers
(NDA) who was arrested today said he regretted his membership of the militant
group.
The suspect, Abraham Julius Suru, disclosed that he
was introduced to militancy, pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities
several years ago.
Suru, who looked miserable while being paraded at
the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS Delta) in Warri, said he had taken part in series
of illegal businesses as well as killings and maiming of persons before his
arrest.
The suspect, who hails from Ijaw area of Ondo
State, disclosed that he was brought into criminality in the creeks by one
Gafar Polo, who is now late.
“We have wreaked havoc on a lot of pipelines and
killed a lot of persons in the process. I regret my action but I must say that
I am not alone in the illegal business,” he confessed.
Suru was arrested in Sapele area of Delta State
last Tuesday after series of intelligence gathering by the navy.
Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Joseph Dzunve,
who paraded the suspect before journalists said he would be handed over to
appropriate authority after preliminary investigations.
“We don’t prosecute suspects, rather we hand them
over to the appropriate authorities after carrying out preliminary
investigation,” he said.
