Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, at the
weekend vowed that he was going to make the state one of the leading economies
in the country through information technology.
The governor explained that he planned to achieve
that by using information technology as a backbone where the state would
leverage on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for prosperity.
He stated this shortly after receiving the Africa
Digital Heroes Award for most outstanding state government digital capacity
initiative for economic transformation from DigiVation Forum 2019 in Lagos.
According to him, "Some of my administration
efforts aimed at instituting ICT and ensuring digital penetration include
creation of ICT hubs and the partnership with the Joint Admission and
Matriculation Board (JAMB) which has led to the equipping of three Computer
Based Test centres in the state with computers.
"Other efforts are the ongoing partnerships
with the federal government agencies and private companies to enhance digital
capacities of workers for e-strategy in public service through training.
"The deployment of ICT in all sectors of
government, such as health management systems as well as the e-government
platforms would make the government more efficient and accessible, as there’re
plans to domesticate a state Information Technology Development Agency among
other initiatives."
The award tagge: ‘Africa Digital Heroes Award’ was
designed to celebrate and recognise individuals, organisations, institutions
and initiatives that have advanced the Nigerian and African digital space in
the past 20 years.
