As 2019 elections get closer, the presidency
on Monday in Abuja boasted that the incumbent and presidential standard bearer
of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari, does not
need election campaign to win because he is a movement himself.
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the president,
Femi Adesina, gave the hint in Abuja at an event organised by a coalition of
Buhari's supporters, Buharists Hangout, to celebrate the president’s 76th
birthday.
Adesina, while speaking on behalf of the president,
said: "There is no need to campaign for the president again, and I agree
absolutely that the president has become a movement."
According to him, "As the president is turning
76 today, it’s another blow to them, and I tell you in February next year, they
will get the final blow, and after that you will not hear of them again."
Speaking further, the media aide said: "APC
has not started its campaign, and instead of rejoicing, its giving them
headache because they are asking themselves what do they have off their
sleeves? What are they coming out with that will knock us off completely? And I
tell you they are going to be knocked off.”
He, however, appreciated Buhari’s supporters, and
commended their efforts to celebrate the president's birthday even without his
consent.
Responding on behalf of the group, Assistant Administrator
of The Buharists Hangout, Efe Williams, claimed that the president who has
shown no desperation for the coming elections has no opposition.
According to Williams, "Do you think we have
opposition? We don’t have opposition in Nigeria. For the first time in this
country we have a president who is not desperate to lose and not desperate to
win, he is focused on leadership, and not concerned about the antics of the
opposition because we don't even have an opposition."
Williams promised that in 2019, being the ‘Next Level’,
"Nigerians will see a president like never before.”
While praising the president for sticking to the three
key cardinal points of his campaign, he added that Nigerians would see a better
anti-corruption fight in 2019.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Government of the
Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, represented by the Senior Special
Assistant to the president on Political Matter, Hon Gedion Sammon, appreciated
the Buharists Hangout, which he called an organised group, for their
recognition of the president’s achievements.
