All talk of a royal rift has been about Meghan Markle and
Kate Middleton but a new report claims it is actually tension between Prince
William and Prince Harry that has caused issues to build up.
According to The Sun, the driving force between the
frostiness between the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex is coming
form their husbands.
Indeed, it’s claimed that Prince Harry has accused his
brother of trying to “wreck his relationship” with Meghan after William
reportedly voiced concerns about the former Suits star when the couple first
started dating.
A source told the publication: “It’s my opinion that Harry
feels he couldn’t protect his mother, so he’s going all out to protect his
wife. This is his way of atoning.
“He will brook absolutely no criticism of Meghan – and he is
so sensitive he often sees criticism or negativity where there isn’t any.”
And it’s even reported that the brothers have been competing
over palace appointments, with William unhappy about the fact Harry received
the role of youth ambassador for the Commonwealth.
While Meghan allegedly felt like she was brushed off by Kate
when she first tried to form a bond between the pair, causing her to stop
trying altogether.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moving to Windsor
The rumours of this supposed rift came around the same time
Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, announced they are moving to Frogmore Cottage, on
the Windsor Castle estate.
Until now, the Sussexes have lived in Nottingham Cottage – a
two-bedroom house in the grounds of Kensington Palace, where the Duke and
Duchess of Cambridge also live.
But there’s still little evidence to support the claims the
two women “don’t get on”, royal biographer Duncan Larcombe tells Yahoo UK.
“There is no particular incident or occasion where they
didn’t get on,” Duncan says. “It is a very broad claim to be making, and is
likely just gossip from palace staff.”
And in a very rare move the palace itself issued a statement
to the media after The Sun claimed Kate chastised Meghan for speaking “rudely”
to royal staff.
“This never happened,” the palace said, responding to The
Mirror.
