Youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in
the South-east region have tasked the newly appointed Managing Director of the National
Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Muoghalu, to make the Onitsha Inland
Port functional.
The youths, who lauded the recent appointment of
the party’s National Auditor, Muoghalu, by President Muhammadu Buhari, urged
the new NIWA boss to use the opportunity to ensure that the Onitsha inland port
live up to the service for which it was built.
In a statement issued by the South-east Zonal Youth
Leader of the APC, Odu Olisaemeka Onyeka, on Wednesday, the party youths thanked President
Buhari for what they described as his consistency in finding light in Anambra
State-the Light of the nation-and promised that the state would repay the
trust.
Anambra is one of the few states in the country from
where the president appointed two ministers-Senator Chris Ngige, Minister
Labour and Employment, and Sharon Ikeazor, Minister of State for Environment.
Onyeka, who congratulated Muoghalu for the appointment,
described him as an exceptional politician whose dedication and steadfastness
to the party can never be questioned, and asked him to carry the youths of the
party along in all his programmes.
The youths’ leader said: “He has been a beacon for party supremacy and
a guiding light for younger and new members of the party. He has always shown
great passion for the growth of the party.
“I am sure he has in excess the requisite
experience and knowledge to move the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)
to the next level.”
