The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Tuesday
said it has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers of an official of the
Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and nine others who were abducted
in Pegi, a resettlement area in Kuje Area Council of Abuja.
The kidnappers, who were said to have donned military
camouflage struck on Monday, took the victims to an unknown destination.
The gunmen were said to have arrived at the settlement
by 8p.m. in a Hilux van
Residents were said to have put up a fight leading to
the abandonment of the operational vehicle riddled with bullets by the
kidnappers, who ran into the bush with the victims.
The FCT Command said it was making concerted efforts
to rescue the victims.
A statement
issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said
details of the kidnapping was still sketchy and urged members of public to
remain calm.
“The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
Abuja wishes to inform the public that it is making concerted effort to rescue
the persons kidnapped around Pegi Community on Monday 7th October, 2019 at
about 2100hrs.
“Though detail of the incident is still sketchy, the
Command is urging members of the public to be calm while the Police intensify
effort to rescue and reunite victims with members of their families,”it said.
The command called “on the public to be security
conscious and provide information to the Police and other relevant security
agencies on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
"The Command reassures members of the public of its
commitment to protect lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory.”
