The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on Monday urged Nigerians to join hands with
the agency to confront corruption holistically even as he disclosed that a huge
sum of money has been recovered from members of the eighth Benue State House
of Assembly.
Magu, who was fielding questions from journalists in Makurdi,
said the fight against corruption requires all Nigerians to join hands to fight
its spread saying corruption is the bane of underdevelopment in the country.
He said that the Commission was committed to reducing
corruption in the country.
According to him, "People feel corruption can only be
fought by the EFCC, but it is affecting every Nigerian, so we need everyone to
contribute by giving information to the Commission
to fight it."
On the investigation of the Benue State Assembly, Magu said
the Commission had continued to recover money from the members, stressing that huge sum of money has been recovered.
It will be recalled that some principal officers of the eight Benue State assembly were arrested
over alleged misappropriation of N750m
meant for the purchase of cars for members.
He said the commission will go against. any Nigerian that is
corrupt, "After all two ex-governors
(Jolly Nyame and Joshua Dariye) were convicted. The commission has gotten a lot of conviction.”
