…Ishaku boosts operation with 26 motorbikes
The Nigeria Army on Thursday launched operation ‘Ayem
Akpatuma II’ in Taraba State as part of efforts to stem the rising spate of
insecurity and violent crimes in the state.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3
Division, Maj. Gen. Nuhu Angbazo, who performed the launching ceremony in
Jalingo, the state capital, stated that the operation would rid the state of
bad elements.
Represented on the occasion by Brig. Gen. Daniel
Briggs, the GOC assured the people of the state that the operation would be
carried out with the highest level of commitment and professionalism, saying
the Nigeria army would not relent in its efforts to combat insecurity across
the country.
He, however, solicited the support and cooperation
of host communities within the duration of the exercise, as he appealed to them
to cooperate with the troops and other security agencies that would be involved
in the operation.
Speaking on the occasion also, the state Governor,
Darius Ishaku, expressed confidence that the operation would address the
security challenges being experienced in some parts of the state.
The governor noted that the security of lives and
property of residents of the state remain paramount to his administration just
as he assured the people of the state that he would leave no stone unturned to
maintain peace across the state.
And in a bid to boost the operation, the governor
donated 26 operational motorbikes to assist the troops in accessing hard-to-reach
areas and difficult terrains in the state, thereby giving criminal elements no
hiding place in the state.
The governor, however, commended the training
exercise conducted for all the security agencies in the state by the army,
saying it would go a long way in promoting inter agency collaboration and
coordination in crime fighting and control.
He further disclosed that his administration had
invested heavily in security, and would continue to do so, stressing that no
meaningful development can be achieved without adequate security.
According to him, "I am confident that the
coming together of the army and other paramilitary agencies will give us a
long-term result, and all vices in the state will be rooted out. We have
invested heavily and still investing in security, because I believe without
security, nothing meaningful can be achieved."
