The Kwara State Police Command at the weekend deployed
3,000 policemen and women in the state in order to make the forthcoming
Christmas and New Year celebration in the state a hitch-free period.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun,
in a statement issued in Ilorin at the weekend by the command Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajayi Okasanmi, also
warned against using of low explosives (bangers) during the period.
According to the statement, "The deployment of
the men of the command across the 16 local government councils of the state is
to maintain peace and order.
"The
policemen and women are drawn
from the conventional, Mobile Police, anti-cultism, anti-kidnapping, counter terrorism and the
Intelligence units of the command to forestall any breakdown of law and order
before, during and after the yuletide period.
"Consequently, the command is also calling on
members of the public to go about their lawful endeavours without any fear of
molestation.
"The command wishes to warn against the use of
low explosive (bangers) without the necessary permit during the yuletide, and
any person found disobeying this order, if arrested, would be prosecuted."
The statement added that "the command also
wishes to use this medium to advise corps members across the state to always
shun the temptation of embarking on unnecessary and unauthorised journeys
especially during this period.
"Any corps member who must travel outside the
state should always obtain the necessary clearance from the NYSC authority
before undertaking such journey, but should also be mindful of the risks
associated with traveling outside the state, including the risk of kidnap.”
