The federal government will on June 16, 2020, arraign a 35 year-old-man, Mr. Onyebuchi Ezema before a judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court for allegedly raping his own four-year-old daughter.
Ezema was said to have raped the little girl at his
residence in Lugbe, a suburb of the Abuja metropolis.
Although the arraignment was slated for yesterday, it was however stalled due to the absence of an Igbo language interpreter.
When the matter was called, the defendant, however, claimed that he understands and speaks Igbo language.
Following the absence of an interpreter in court, the
trial judge, Justice Asmau Yusuf, subsequently adjourned till June 16, 2020, to
enable the court get an Igbo language interpreter for the arraignment.
In the one-count charge, the defendant, Ezema, is
accused of raping his four-year-old daughter between April 15 and 16, 2020, at
Lugbe within the jurisdiction of the FCT high court.
The alleged offence is punishable under Section one
sub Section one of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act of 2015.
