17-year-old Student Commits Suicide over Failure to Get Promotion to SS2 in Kwara

A 17-year-old student of Offa Grammar School, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Adegoke Adeyemi, has reportedly committed suicide as a result of his failure to pass his promotion examination from SS1 to SS2. Adegoke was found hanging on a tree following his failure to get promoted into the next class in the school. The state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the development in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday, said the corpse of the deceased student was removed from a tree behind Ariya Garden Hotel, Offa, by a team of policemen from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Offa last Tuesday. Okasanmi said the corpse of the deceased was taken to the Offa General Hospital for autopsy, adding that the police have commenced investigation into the matter. Man Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Murdering Job Seeker in A'Ibom

Uduak Akpan, 21, from Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of a job seeker in the state, late Iniubong Umoren. An Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo, the state capital, delivered the judgement on Thursday after about one year of trial. The Presiding Judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, in his ruling, also sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for raping the deceased who he lured to his father's house in Uruan LGA for sake of job offer. In the more than two hours’ judgement, Justice Nkanang discharged and acquitted the convict's father, Frank Akpan, and sister, Anwan Bassey, who were second and third defendants accused of accessory after the fact to murder respectively. The Field Commander of the Osun State Western Security Network Agency codenamed: Amotekun Corps’, Amitolu Shittu, has warned the residents of the state to stop harbouring criminals in their domains. Lack of Produce Export Affecting Nigerian Economy, Says Shippers Council

The Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) has posited that the inability of Nigeria to consistently produce and export goods and services have negatively affected the country's economy. Police Arrest 23 Night Thugs in Gombe

Police in Gombe State have arrested 23 suspected thugs notoriously called 'Kalare', who often terrorise people in the night and steal valuables. The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Mahid Mu'azu Abubakar, who disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists on the operations carried out by the Command in recent time. Abubakar said the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of yesterday at about 1 a.m. by the police tactical teams from Gombe Divisional Headquarters.
