A 17-year-old student of Offa Grammar School, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Adegoke Adeyemi, has reportedly committed suicide as a result of his failure to pass his promotion examination from SS1 to SS2. Adegoke was found hanging on a tree following his failure to get promoted into the next class in the school. The state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the development in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday, said the corpse of the deceased student was removed from a tree behind Ariya Garden Hotel, Offa, by a team of policemen from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Offa last Tuesday. Uduak Akpan, 21, from Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of a job seeker in the state, late Iniubong Umoren. An Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo, the state capital, delivered the judgement on Thursday after about one year of trial. Police in Gombe State have arrested 23 suspected thugs notoriously called 'Kalare', who often terrorise people in the night and steal valuables. The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Mahid Mu'azu Abubakar, who disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists on the operations carried out by the Command in recent time. Abubakar said the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of yesterday at about 1 a.m. by the police tactical teams from Gombe Divisional Headquarters. According to him, “The police succeeded in nabbing the suspected thugs during its anti-thuggery patrol tagged: ‘Patrol 999’, where they raided criminal hideouts within Malan-Inna quarters in the state capital.
