Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, on Tuesday called for support for the elderly in the society. Speaking during his
visit to the Old People's Home run by the
Immaculate Heart of Mary's Sisters at Nkpor yesterday, Obi described
support for such ventures as authentic Christian charity.
Stating further, Obi said the joy of growing old is
for those ones cared for in their youth to also care for the ones in their old
age with understanding and love, as he commended the sisters for the gesture,
calling on the young ones to emulate such noble acts by taking care of their aged ones.
Receiving a cheque of N2 million on behalf of the congregation, the Mother General, Rev. Sr Mary Claude Oguh,
thanked Obi for his love for humanity, which he had used all available
opportunity to demonstrate both as governor and a private person.
Oguh said their congregation, in the best Catholic
tradition, would keep on attending to the spiritual and necessary material
needs of the people as much as they could.
