President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Kano disclosed that the overwhelming reception accorded to him by the people of Kano State is a clear message to the opposition in the country.
Speaking at an interactive session with community leaders held at Coronation House, Buhari stated that "I am very happy with the massive reception I have received, and definitely since this is partisan politics, I think it has sent a clear message to the opposition.
Buhari said the reception accorded hIm impressed him, while expressing appreciation to the Emir of Kano for the horse parade for him at the palace, confirms that Kano State remains his stronghold.
He noted that during his drive around the city to inaugurate projects and observed that many of those who thronged the road to welcome him were young people who were anxious to see him.
The president pointed that his administration focused on major issues that will foster the development in the country, stating that in the last two years, corruption became major challenges in the country.
He also said there are plan to ensure that properties of corrupt people will be sold and deposit the resources into government account.
He assured that the present administration will not relent in its effort to ensure the corrupt people were prosecuted .
On the issue of rice importation, President Buhari adding that importation of rice has been reduced to 90 percent through land border, pointed out that he would continue to do his best to ensure that the country attained greater heights.
On transborder relationship with ECOWAS countries, the president said his government is working to establish cordial relationship with neighboring countries.
The president also spoke on the issue of drug abuse, that government will check proliferation of hard drugs into the country, adding" Many people have talked to me about this. That is why I have assigned a retired military man to handled this. You all know about the performance of Hameed Ali. He is doing a good job, and by God's grace we will do more, "
He said his administration would continue to accord priority attention to education so as to empower the youth to enable them contribute their quota toward the development of the country.
“It you educate people you empower them. So we have to make sacrifice to prepare the youth for the future,” Buhari said.
Earlier in his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State said his administration had been able to execute a number of developmental projects in addition to initiating various empowerment programmes for women and youths.
He said as part of effort to address unemployment challenges, the state government had awarded contract worth over N2 billion for the construction of a Skills acquisition training Centre which would soon be completed and put to use.
Ganduje said: "We have a number of projects that are ongoing and we hope you will visit the state in near future in order to commission such projects."
