Senators and supporters were in court on Thursday as the Federal Government arraigned Senator Dino Melaye, lawmaker representing Kogi West district of Kogi state, for allegedly framing Edward David, Chief of Staff to Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi state.
Melaye has was accused of deliberately accusing Edward of being the mastermind of the alleged attempt to assassinate him and deliberately gave false information to the police to frame Edward.
At the court on Thursday, Melaye pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
Ben Murray-Bruce, Senator representing Bayelsa East, and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Senator representing Abia North, were among those who accompanied Melaye to court.
Also, dozens of placard-carrying protesters, under the aegis of Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CNYL), thronged the high court in Maitama, Abuja in solidarity with Melaye.
The protesters held placards with inscriptions: ‘No force can stop Dino Melaye’, ‘No one can kill the truth speak on Dino’, among others.
