A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the land
grabbers section of the Lagos State Task Force is currently being interrogated
by detectives at the Command Headquarters for his alleged involvement in the attack
of a church at Makoko area of the state.
Arrested alongside the DSP were five other policemen
attached to the task force
The six indicted persons were brought to the command
headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday on the orders of the state Commissioner of
Police, Imohimi Edgal.
Their invitation was sequel to a strong worded petition by
members of the church and their lawyer to the CP complaining of the actions of
the policemen.
Edgal said that it was discovered that on May 10, 2018, at
about 2.15 p.m, men from the land grabbing section, assisted by police officers
on an assignment to investigate the activities of the land grabbers were
attacked at Ilaje Community of Makoko in Yaba, by suspected land grabbers.
He said during the attack, three casualties were recorded,
thus he ordered a team of policemen to conduct investigation into the incident
based on the complaint from members of the church and some prominent members of
the community.
He said: "Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of
Lands and Environment, policemen attached to the Task Force have been invited
for questioning.
"Also invited are prominent members of the Makoko
Community where the incident happened.
"Presently, the leader of the police team has been
relieved of his duty to make way for an unbiased investigation. His boys have
also been invited for questioning.
"The outcome of the investigation will be made known to
the public in due course."
