The Nigerian Police have captured two out of four
gang leaders and principal suspects of the deadly robbery incident at a bank in
Offa, Kwara State.
According to him, "Two out of the four gang
leaders and principal suspects who were declared wanted and their pictures
circulated to the media and the public on May 4, 2018, in connection with the
Offa bank robbery have been arrested by the joint police investigation team and
are now in police custody.
"These two vicious and notorious suspects now
in police net, confessed to being the gang-leaders of their groups.”
He said one of the principal suspects, Kunle
Ogunleye aka Arrow, 35, a native of
Kwara State, was arrested on May 20, 2018, in Oro town in the state. The police
spokesman noted that Ogunleye's pictures were one of those displayed while he
was participating in the bank robbery and after he was arrested.
Jimoh also disclosed the second suspect as Mr. Micheal
Adikwu, a native of Apa in Benue State. He said the captured gang leader was a
dismissed policeman "who was arrested, tried and dismissed from the force
and charged to court by the police in 2012 in Kwara State for criminal
conspiracy and aiding the escape from lawful custody of armed robbery suspects."
According to Jimoh, Adikwu served three years in prison
and subsequently found his way out in 2015.
"He became a vicious and notorious gang leader
of armed robbery syndicate wanted for several armed robberies in Kwara and
other states in North Central and Southwest. He was arrested by the joint police
investigation team in Kwara State two weeks ago," Jimoh stated.
The Force PRO stressed that the arrest of these two
gang leaders had brought to 22 suspects arrested so far in connection with the
Offa banks robbery.
He said the two suspects had confessed to the crime
and admitted to the various criminal roles they played in the Offa banks
robbery.
Jimoh said they would be charged to court on
completion of investigation.
He also noted that the Nigeria Police Force is
deeply appreciative of "members of the public for the timely information
leading to the arrest of most of the 22 suspects now in police custody."
He, however, urged "members of the public who
have any further information about other wanted suspects still at large should
feel free to contact the police.
