The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Wednesday
met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja as part of his
consultations on his next political move ahead of 2019 elections.
Saraki, sources stated, arrived at the
Maitama, Abuja residence of President Jonathan at about 2p.m. and went into a
close-door meeting with him.
Yesterday's meeting was said to be part of the
consultations embarked upon by Saraki in the last one month to observe
stakeholders’ feelings on his reported presidential ambition for 2019 polls.
The Senate president had in the last few weeks paid
similar visit to two former presidents-Ibrahim Babangida à t his Hilltop
residence in Minna and Olusegun Obasanjo at his Abeokuta home.
Saraki, who defected from All Progressives Congress
(APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last month, and by his position,
the new leader of the PDP, was accompanied to yesterday's meeting with Jonathan
by some Senators and party loyalists.
They were Senators Dino Melaye, Barnabas Gemade,
Adebayo Ibrahim and Albert Bassey.
Others on his entourage were PDP chieftain Kawu
Baraje; former Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada; former Leader of
House of Representatives, Wakil Mohammed, and former presidential spokesman, Dr.
Doyin Okupe.
Meanwhile, Saraki has open a campaign office along Adetokunbo Ademola street in
Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.
Sources further hinted that a Director-General and
other campaign officers would, in a matter of days, be named by Saraki, and
they will take full charge of his campaign office in readiness for the 2019
elections.
