The Lagos State Police have arrested 25 persons for
robbery and cultism related activities at Ejigbo, Ago-Okota and Oshodi areas of
the state at different occasions.
The robbery suspects arrested in Ejigbo area are
Adebayo Gbenga, 23; Ashiru Dele, 29; Damilare Fagbemi, 23; Osondu Obodo, 24,
and Akeem Muibi, 35.
The state Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal,
disclosed this on Wednesday while parading the suspects at the Command headquarters
in Ikeja.
The first two robbers were said to have been
arrested after the Ejigbo Division received a distress call from concerned
Lagosians on October 15 this year that some hoodlums were robbing people of
their handbags and phones around NNPC Junction, Ejigbo.
Following their arrest, four phones and some
handbags were recovered from them.
According to Edgal, “They confessed to have come
all the way from Lagos Island and Okota to rob at Ejigbo.”
Also in Ejigbo yesterday, a notorious shop and
house breaker, Akeem Muibi, 35, was caught red handed shoplifting in one Mallam
Sani Alli's grocery shop.
Edgal added: “Although Muibi fled the scene, he was
eventually arrested from a nearby septic tank where he hid himself after
breaking into the said shop.”
Meanwhile, a band of five machete-wielding
hoodlums, who attacked innocent citizens and destroyed properties on October 11
this year, were also arrested yesterday
morning from their various hideouts at Oshodi.
The suspects were arrested after the Divisional
Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Akinpelu Police Station, SP Oladimeji Sunday,
led a team of operatives to their hideouts.
The suspects are Emmanuel Ebere, also known as
Marceto, 25; Timilehi Onijaka, 20; Rasaq Wasiu, 23; Yakubu, 22, and Emmanuel
Edesewehen, 21.
Again, the state commissioner of police paraded a
suspected car vandal, Fatai Adeshina, 32, while vandalising cars at 13/15
Community Road, Ago-Okota.
According to Edgal, the suspect claimed he was just
a starter after four operations.
Some exhibits recovered from him included a brain
box of Toyota Corrolla, four side door control panels. “Suspect will be charged
to court accordingly,” the CP said.
Among the 25 arrested suspects, 15 persons,
including two teenagers, were nabbed at various location in the state for
cultism while having their initiation rites base on intelligence.
They are Price Chimeterem, 28; Obiora Victor, 30;
Ifeanyi Uche, 23; Ufon Udosen, 21; Gbenga Ogundijo, 42; Radi Taiyo,19; Owoyemi
Toheeb, 19; Adewale John, 23; Olawale Adams, 20; Ramon Sodiq, 28; Adewunmi
Oluwasheyi, 30; Omolade Samuel, 16; Ekene Stanley, 30; Chamberlin Anikam, 22,
and Oche Atah, 30.
