The Federal University of Technology Minna chapter
of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has insisted that the strike
declared by the union must continue.
This is in spite of appeals made to the union by
prominent Nigerians for the strike to be called off in the interest of Nigerian
students.
A statement by the Secretary of the union, Dr.
Gbolahan Folarin, made available to all members, a copy of which was given to
the media at the weekend, advised all its
members to ignore any directive to the contrary.
"This is to remind us that the current strike
declared by the union is total, comprehensive and indefinite,"the
statement said.
Consequently, Folarin said: "We are expected
to steer clear of any form of meetings and other official gatherings under any
guise throughout the period of the strike.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the gatherings
include but not limited to trainings and workshops.
"The union is counting on our collective
resolve to stand by our resolution of November 6, 2018, (Joining the strike as
declared by ASUU-NEC)," Folarin declared.
The strike started over a week ago to press for the
signing of the 2009 agreement on the funding of universities welfare of staff
and revitalisation of universities across the country.
A few federal universities had failed to join the
strike.
