MTN Nigeria Communications Plc on Tuesday launched
its 4G+ in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt, which is an improvement on its 4G
network to enhance download speed.
The enhanced service, according to the network, is
aimed at delivering a premium experience to more people across the country.
The telecoms company in a statement said: "MTN
4G+ runs on 4G LTE Advanced Technology using a combination of the recently
acquired 800 MHz spectrum and 2600 MHz. The added spectrum and advanced
technology extend the reach and capacity of MTN data network in Nigeria and
enables speeds of up to 200 Mbps."
The statement added that the 4G+ launch would mean
that a 30-minute high definition (HD) video could take as little as three
minutes to download, while the same video would take around eight minutes to
download on standard 4G.
MTN said the service would be immediately available
and would deliver much higher broadband speeds, a more consistent connection
and significant improvement in indoor coverage.
Commenting on the new service, the Chief Operating
Officer of MTN Nigeria, Mazen Mroue, said: “It’s about the customers (subscribers).
We put the customers at the heart of everything that we do.”
Mroue noted that the launch of 4G+ would represent
a natural evolution from MTN already fast and reliable 4G network which further
demonstrates the company's commitment to continue its investment in technology
that caters for the present and future needs of its customers and country.
According to him, "As MTN, we believe that
everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life. With this
enhancement, our customers in covered locations can expect faster downloads and
uploads as well as a better browsing and streaming experiences. The successful
launch of our 4G+ network is a momentous occasion, which advances our quest to
provide a world-class service to our customers.”
To activate the service and enjoy a new digital
experience, customers need an MTN standard 4G SIM with a compatible device as
upgrades are available in stores nationwide, the company said in a statement.
