Taraba State Governor Dirus Ishaku, who is the
Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Screening Committee for Kogi State governorship primary election has advised the aspirants to work in unity notwithstanding the
result of the primaries.
Ishaku gave the advice while speaking with journalists
at the end of the screening exercise which ended late last Monday at the PDP
Legacy House in Abuja.
According to him, “They are 13 but only one person
will emerge the governorship candidate; so there is a need for them, after the
primary, to collapse their teams and support whoever emerges as the winner.
“Without this, they would not be able to galvanise
the needed strength to rescue the mantle of leadership in the state, however, from
those that we have interviewed, they spoke well.’’
Asked what he was doing to settle the crisis that
broke out among the Jukun and Tiv students at the Federal University in Wukari,
Ishaku said his government would restore peace in Taraba State.
“We are working assiduously, and as you know, once
there is a breakdown of law and order, it is not easy to fix it overnight, but
by the grace of God, everything will be alright,’’ the governor said.
One of the aspirant, Abubakar Idris, commended the
calibre of people who made up the committee and the level of professionalism at
which they conducted the exercise.
Abubakar, who is the son of former governor of the Kogi
State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, expressed confidence that with the guidelines for
the primary election, PDP would be much stronger in the state after the primaries.
