Adamawa State Police Commissioner, Mr. Audu Adamu
Madaki, has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection to the gruesome
murder of a journalist in the state last week.
Madaki disclosed this in Yola last Monday while
receiving the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ),
Chief Chris Isiguzo, and his entourage on a courtesy call, stressing that his
detectives are working round the clock to ensure that the culprits are not only
arrested but duly prosecuted.
The state police boss, after condoling with the
leadership of the Union and the family of the deceased journalist, maintained
that the police would soon parade those involved in the heinous act.
The commissioner stated that journalism profession
and security operatives are partners in progress, and need to synergise in the
interest of peaceful coexistence.
Earlier in his address, the National President of
the NUJ, Isiguzo commended the police for the arrest, and urged them to do more
so that justice can be given to late Nashion Maxwell.
Isiguzo said his team is touring all the 37
councils of the union with a view to meeting members as well as design
solutions to the challenges facing the profession.
According to him, “We have confidence in the
Nigeria Police Force as it remains the best in Africa with outstanding
performance accepted globally.
“We are using this forum to call for cordial
relationship with our members in the state because the central objective of the
two professions is to build a peaceful and society where rule of law is
maintained.”
Late Maxwell, a staff with Federal Radio
Cooperation of Nigeria (FRCN) Fombina FM Yola, was last week abducted and
murdered by unknown assailants for reasons best known to them
However, Maxwell was yesterday put to rest in his home town of Damsa Local
Government Area.
