Operatives from Ojo Police Station in Lagos State have arrested one Chukwajekwu Eziigbo of Ilufe area in Ojo for allegedly stealing female underwear from a clothesline in a bid to use them for ritual purposes.
In his statement, the suspect confessed that for one year now, he has been stealing female underwear from different houses in Ojo and environs and he usually hands them over in exchange for money.
The 15-year-old fingered the following female suspects as recipients of the stolen underwear: 17-year-old Chidima Obietu, 17-year- old Chikwaka Chidima Jemfe,23-year-old Gold Enyinnaya and Akomas Amarachi, aged 26.
Acting on the information, the police swung into action and arrested the female suspects, who thereafter confessed to the crime.
Confirming the arrests, the state Police Spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana said detectives recovered some stolen female underwear from the suspects, adding that they would be charged to court.
In another development, the Ejigbo Police Division prevented a 21-year-old student of UNN, Obasi Chukwuemeka, from committing suicide.
The police were alerted by an officer of Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps, that the young man had tied a rope in a loop around their living room ceiling fan in preparation to commit suicide because he was scolded by his parents.
Elkana said swift response by operatives from Ejigbo Police Station prevented him from killing himself and he was rescued and taken to hospital for medical examination.
Also, the police at Itire Division have arrested a car wash operator for killing his neighbour over locking of the house gate.
The suspect, one Sheriff Balogun had confronted the deceased, one Peter Elebo, and as an argument ensued, the former pushed the latter and he started vomiting blood and died on the spot.
Homicide detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer Itire, SP Barkfur Kromkyes visited the scene and evacuated the corpse to the mortuary for autopsy.
The police spokesman said the suspect was arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Yaba, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
