The Taraba State Technical Committee on COVID-19 on Sunday
released 124 persons quarantined at the state isolation centre situated at the
NYSC orientation camp in Sibre, near Jalingo, the state capital.
The suspects were part of the 130 travellers who
were intercepted and quarantined at the isolation centre, six of whom tested
positive to COVID-19.
The Chairman of the Technical Committee, Dr.
Innocent Vakkai, who handed over the suspects to the caretaker chairmen of
their various local government area, said the suspects were discharged after
testing negative to the virus twice.
Vakkai, who is the state Commissioner for Health,
noted that the suspects, who traveled to the state from high risk areas, have
spent the mandatory 14 days in isolation.
According to him "Out of the 130 people, six
tested positive while the remaining tested negative twice after 14 days in
quarantine. Though we have eight positive cases, two of the cases are not from the
130 people quarantined in this centre.
"We have called the chairmen of various local
government councils to hand over their people to them, and we have profiled
them for easy tracing in case of any issue arising hereafter."
Caretaker Chairman of Jalingo LGA and the state
ALGON Chairman, Alhaji Abdulnaseer Bobboji, told journalists that the local
government councils in the state have keyed into the efforts put in place by
the state government to contain the virus.
Bobboji, however, called on well-meaning individuals
and NGOs to support and assist the government to provide facemasks to the
people of the state, saying no local government council can afford to provide
face masks and other personal protective equipment to the citizens.
