Saraki Expresses Delight as Trial Commences

After failed moves to postpone the commencement of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for false asset declaration in 2003, Senate President Bukola Saraki on Tuesday said he was glad that the trial had eventually commenced.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, said the proceedings of yesterday gave him confidence that if the trial was conducted fairly, he would be vindicated in the end.

He said even though the prosecution tried to bring in some dramatic narratives, "it was clear they were merely thrashing around and hoping to titillating the public with salacious tales."
He added that he was hopeful that in due time, his lawyers would have the opportunity to present his case.
