One of the four suspected killers of Funke Olakunrin, the late daughter of the leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, was one of the two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ondo State.

The suspect with three others was ordered to be remanded at Owo Correction Centre by Magistrate Victoria Bob-Manuel after their samples must have been taken for COVID-19 screening to prevent them from infecting other inmates in case they were positive

The order of the court was sequel to the request by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kolawole Olawoye (SAN), who represented the state during the arraignment of the suspects.

As suspected, one of the suspects was confirmed to have been tested negative when the results of the samples were released by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The confirmation of the status of the suspect was disclosed by the state Governor, Oluwatotimi Akeredolu, through his twitter handle.

"We have confirmed two other cases in Ondo State. One of the cases involves one of the recently arraigned suspects in the murder of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the late Pa Fasoranti’s Daughter.

"The state Commissioner of Police has been duly informed and the line tracing of police officers and others in the SARs facility where he was kept has commenced and their specimens are being collected.

"The suspect has been isolated from others and will be moved to the IDH for treatment. The commissioner of police has assured the state that there will be adequate security around the IDH premises to prevent his escape, and while on treatment, he will be chained to the bed," Akeredolu said.

With the confirmation of two new cases, the number of positive cases recorded by the state has now risen to six, out of which one has been discharged after treatment.
