Former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State Alhaji Garba
Gadi is dead. He died last Tuesday in India where he was receiving medical
attention. He was the deputy governor of the state during first tenure of the
immediate past Governor, Malam Isa Yuguda.
Confirming Gadi's death in a telephone interview,
the Galadima of Katagum, Alhaji Usman Mahmud Abdullahi, explained that the
deceased who was until his demise, a member of the Katagum emirate council,
died at 71.
Abdullahi described his death as a great loss to
the emirate, Katagum Local Government Area, Bauchi State and Nigeria at large “considering
the pivotal role he played towards the development of the nation in his
different capacities.”
Late Gadi will be missed by Katagum emirate council
“because he was among the highly revered elders in the state. But we pray for
the repose of his soul and pray Allah to grant his family the fortitude to bear
the loss." The late former deputy governor is survived by three wives and
many children. As at the time of filing in this report, his family was awaiting
the arrival of his corpse for funerals.
Also, the Speaker of the House Representatives,
Yakubu
Dogara, has described Gadi’s demise as a huge loss.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on
Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Turaki
Hassan, in Abuja, Dogara said late Gadi was a true democrat, elder statesman,
and a patriot.
" Gadi's life was exemplary, worthy of
emulation as he lived the life of service to his fatherland and to humanity.
"He contributed in no small way to the
development of Bauchi State, especially
through the facilitation of the establishment of Zaki Flour Mills in the
state.
"We have lost a seasoned and consummate civil
servant, grassroots politician and a true son of Bauchi."
"Our heartfelt condolences go to his immediate
family, friends, associates and the people of the state at large," Dogara
said.
