Obi said his problem is not with Obiano who remains
his friend as he has no issues with him as a person but his non-performance as
a governor.
The former governor who accompanied the state Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) candidate of the governorship election, Oseloka Obaze,
to a rally organised by the women’s wing of the party at the state party
secretariat, said he was fighting Obiano because of a vow he made to the Anambra
people in 2013.
According to Obi, “In 2013, I took Obiano around
the state, to the markets, to every part of the state and the people kept
asking me if I was sure of him as they did not know him, but would vote him
because of me.
“I told them I would be the one to lead a campaign
against Obiano if he does not perform well in his first term. Today, can anyone
show me what the governor has done in his first term? He has nothing to show
for it."
Obi said winning second term is usually an easy
task for any performing governor as all that was needed was for the governor to
point at his achievements in the first term and then tell the people what he
would do in the second term and the people would vote for him.
“When I was working for my second term, each
community I went to, I usually showed them what I had achieved, and that made
it possible for the people to vote for me because they have seen what I can do.
“We challenge Obiano to show us what he has done in
his first term. Go to all parts of the state where all of you came from; can
you mention the things he has done? He has done nothing. That is why I am here
to lead the campaign for his removal,” Obi said.
The former governor charged the party to work hard
for the enthronement of good leadership, saying PDP has selected a credible
candidate in Obaze to succeed Obiano.
Obi expressed happiness that PDP in the state was
now a united party, unlike before, when he (Obi) rode on the disunity in the
party to win the state governorship election of the party twice.
"Anambra has always been a PDP state, and our
entry has further popularised the party in the state. Go to the markets,
everywhere, the people are calling on PDP. I was one of those who benefited
from the party's disunity, but today we are one," Obi said.
