Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has proclaimed
that nobody can stop President Muhammadu Buhari from winning the 2019
presidential election except God.
The governor
stated this while reacting to President Olusegun Obasanjo's letter to the President
Buhari advising him not to contest 2019 presidential election
Speaking at
a town hall meeting last Tuesday evening to mark his two years in office, the
governor pointed out that no campaign of calumny against President Buhari would
frustrate his re-election, more so that he has the overwhelming support of
Nigerians to continue in office, in view of his transparent leadership.
Bello wondered why people who plundered the
resources of the country would be contemplating returning to power, saying that
that can never happen. He posited
further that God who made Buhari to pass through the valley of death preserved
him for a purpose, expressing confidence that the president would secure
another mandate in view of his purposeful leadership.
According to
him, the president is just close to three years and his opponents are running
helter skelter because they cannot tolerate him for eight years, stressing that
by the time President Buhari completes his two terms in office, his opponents
would be in political wilderness.
He said President Buhari is doing well in his best
in the fight corruption, insurgency as well as improve the economy, noting that
the foreign reserve has been bolstered significantly, compared to what was in
place before he came on board in 2015.
"The president
is boiling them with cold water, suffocating them because they cannot stomach
him for eight years, that is why they are crying foul. When the time comes, they
will know that majority of the people of this country are solidly behind him.
So those who are against the re-election of President Buhari cannot stop him,"
he emphasised.
Bello further opined that if God endorses the president
to serve his constitutional two terms, he does not need the support of anyone
to achieve that feat, insisting that those who grounded the country are
desperately seeking relevance, trying to play God.
He maintained that no amount of intimidation, media
manipulation and campaign of calumny can compel President Buhari to abandon his
avowed commitment to put the country on the path of greatness, stressing that
the current efforts at retrieving all the stolen monies from the country's
coffers cannot be abandoned because of some selfish individuals.
On his political aspiration, Bello said God would
take of that when the time comes, assuring the people that the state was poised
to present credible candidates that can adequately and effectively represent
the state at all levels in the next dispensation.
