Enugu State Police Command on Tuesday disclosed that the kidnapped Enugu Catholic priest has been rescued and reunited with the Catholic community.

Rev Fr. Paulinus Udewangu of St. Marks Catholic Church Nsude in Udi Local Government Area of the state was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen on July 4, 2018, on Nsude/Obioma road in Udi council area.

He was said to have been abducted during his routine jogging exercise within the area.

But in a statement by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu, the Catholic Priest was released by his abductors on the evening of July 7, 2017, three days after he was kidnapped.

He was said to have been released within Udi/Ozalla Forest axis without any form of random paid.

However, one person was arrested in connection with the kidnap, the statement disclosed.

According to the statement, the release followed an intensive pressure and search mounted by the operatives of the Enugu state command of the Nigeria Police, which forced his abductors who were earlier demanding the sum of N100 million to abandon him just as operatives acting on intelligence information were closing up on them.

"Meanwhile, a full scale investigations have commenced into the incident just as one person have been nabbed in connection with the incident and he is now helping the operatives in their investigation," he said.
