A notable supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari and member
of the House of Representatives representing the Kazaure/Roni/Gwiwa federal constituency
of Jigawa State, Hon. Muhammed Kazaure Gudaji, has called for a reversal of the
re-appointment of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin
Emefiele, for a second term of office.
He said the deputy CBN Governor, Mr. Suleiman Barau, whom he
said his credentials were sent to the president would have served as a better
replacement for Emefiele.
Addressing journalists at the House of Representatives media
centre, Kazaure said on Wednesday that he was expressing the views of many
“die-hard” supporters of the president, who are of the views that the
re-appointment was not in tandem with the next level electoral campaigns ahead
of the 2019 general election.
According to him, “That is why I am advising the president,
if there is a possibility, to reverse this confirmation of Emefiele and to look
at somebody with integrity to come and reform the economy of this country.
“Majority of the members of the campaign organisation that
went across the nation; campaigned for next level are surprised. We are not
happy about the re-appointment of the CBN governor. We expect the president to
bring a fresh person who is after the reform of the economy of this country,
not the people who are doing business! They are not after common people.
“We are advising the president that any re-appointment he
should look at the background of the person; what he did in the office, what he
achieved, what mess he did, then if there is a possibility to call to get
advice from the people he can call to get advice from the people," he
said.
Explaining the reasons for antagonising Emefiele’s re-appointment,
Kazaure stated that “if we can remember in this country, many things happened
about the CBN Governor, most especially during the President Goodluck Jonathan
administration. Now, we are accusing Dasuki, we are accusing Dezani, Nenadi
Usman and many other people; all these money they are being accused of by the
EFCC were released through CBN and what is surprising is that we are expecting
that as the president met Emefiele and allowed him to finish his five years, we
are supposed to look for a reliable person who would reform the economy of this
country.
“With many things that happened we are not expecting the
president to re-appoint Emefiele to continue as CBN Governor. If you can
remember, Emefiele met dollar at 180; so what is the reform now that dollar is
360?”
Arguing that Emefiele’s re-appointment “Means that instead
of moving to the next level we are going back level,” the lawmaker who insisted
that “the president himself is aware of the mess that happened during PDP era,”
maintained that his group have no confidence in the CBN Governor.
