Head of the National Economic Team of Nigeria,
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, has differed with the Central Bank Governor
(CBN), Godwin Emefiele’s assertion that tough time awaits Nigerians.
Speaking to journalists Tuesday after inaugurating a number
of projects executed by the outgoing Government of Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo in
Gombe State, the vice-president said the government is looking out on many
different issues and have set in place realistic and visible measures to ensure
that Federal Government is able to diversify the economy away from oil.
According to him, “Our special economic focus which we have
in all the six geo-political zones starting from the Enyimba city as well as
the Lagos Economic zone in Lekki among others, are industrial zones that we
know will bring in the type of investments expected in industry and will of
course produce significant number of jobs.”
He said the same thing is happening in the agro-allied value
chain and stressed that “of course you know that we are becoming self-sufficient
in several different agricultural products.”
Osinbajo explained further that the Government has also
worked out a partnership with Brazil in the area of agro-industrial sector.
He said: “They are opening up several service sectors where
there will be a lot of agro-technology on implements and equipment which will
be very useful in many Local Government Areas. As a matter of fact, we intend
to open one in every single Local Government Area.”
“We want to see that our economy takes off in the right
direction, of course you are aware that we are investing on technology
considerably and that is where many of our young people have pushed in the
boundaries and are doing considerably well”, he emphasised.
Earlier, the Vice President had gone round and commissioned
several projects undertaken and completed by the Dankwambo administration in
the last eight years where he commended the people and government of the State
for doing so much.
He said: “There was a wide range of projects from roads, the
international Conference Centre, College Medical Sciences, the Women and
Children Hospital, all very crucial projects”.
