Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida
(rtd) has passed a vote of confidence on the ninth National Assembly, saying
the leadership and other federal lawmakers are doing a good job.
Babangida made the remarks at his uphill residence
in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday when he received a delegation of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) minority caucus of the House of Representatives led by
the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu.
According to him, “I am passionate in observing what
is going on in the country; I develop lots of interests in the ongoing
activities across the country and I think the leadership of the House of
Representatives, the Speaker, the opposition leadership and everyone are all
doing well.
"You represent the people and it is what they wish
that you would take up. I want to commend you for doing your job honourably,
and I urge you not to give up."
The former military president observed that Nigeria
"is a complex and difficult country because in the country, there are as
many opinions as there are the numbers of people. Nigeria is a very vibrant
society, and what is important is the determination, therefore, you have to
remain very resilient in everything you do for the benefit of the country."
Bbangida expressed satisfaction that the minority
caucus of the House had been able to overcome the initial hiccups it
encountered when it resumed sitting,
saying: "It is time to settle down to do a lot of good work for your
constituency and the country."
The former military president assured the
delegation of his support at all times, challenging them to continue to
discharge their duties honourably.
Earlier, the Minority House Leader, Elumelu, had
said they were in Minna to introduce themselves to Babangida and also thank him for the role he played in his
emergence as minority leader.
Elumelu said with challenges facing the country,
the PDP minority caucus in the House would require fatherly advice from the
past leader on how to pilot the affairs of the House and proffer solutions to
the problems facing the country.
"We are here to ask for your fatherly advice. As
the country is facing challenges especially in the area of insecurity, we think
coming here will give us the ample opportunity to get that fatherly advice on
the way we will pilot the affairs of the House," he said.
