Yuguda Emerges GPN Candidate for Bauchi South Senatorial By-election

Immediate past Governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda, on Thursday emerged the candidate of the Green Party of Nigeria (GPN) for the Bauchi south senatorial by-election scheduled to hold on August 11, 2018.

Yuguda emerged following a voice affirmation by all the delegates during the party primary held at the party State Secretariat in Tirwun area of Bauchi on Wednesday evening to meet the deadline given by INEC for the conduct and submission of names of candidates for the by-election.

The former governor was the only constant at the primaries but in line with the guidelines of the party there must be affirmation by the delegates that had gathered for the exercise.

While accepting his nomination, the former Governor assured that he will provide effective representation of the area if eventually elected as the Senator calling on members of the party to work for its success at the polls.

Yuguda however warned them to avoid campaign of violence but rather engage in campaign of issues and good governance which he said the area requires. He then proceeded to Dass to open the office of the GPN and kickstand his campaign for the by-election.

In the same vein, the member representing Toro federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Lawal Yahaya Gumau, has emerged as the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Bauchi South senatorial district by-election. 

Lawal Gumau who was voted Party's Primary Election polled a total of 847 votes to defeat his closest contestants Dr. Danjuma Adamu Dabo who polled a total of 776 votes, Dr. Safiya Ilyasu Muhammad polled 519 votes, Alhaji Ahmad Shuaibu polled 8 votes,   Muhammad Hassan Tilde polled 3 votes while Kabir Tahir polled one votes. 

Speaking while announcing the results of the primaries, the Chairman of the Election Committee, Mr. Phillip Shaibu,  commended the delegates and the entire APC members for exhibiting high sense of maturity, especially towards ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election. 

Philip Shaibu who is the Deputy Governor of Edo State, called for mutual understanding and cooperation among the Party members for the success of the candidate during the conduct of the by-election.

While speaking with newsmen shortly after his election, Lawal Gumau assured that if voted as the Senator, he will improve the living condition of the people of the constituency through viable Constituency Projects. 

Lawal Gumau who commended the delegates and the entire APC members for giving him the opportunity, promised to justify the confidence reposed in him if elected.

Meanwhile, immediate former Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Ladan Salihu, has been elected as the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Bauchi south senatorial by-election scheduled holding  on the 11th of August, 2018.
