Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, will on Monday inaugurate an investigative committee to probe alleged incidences of child prostitution, sodomy and forced abortion at the Maiduguri maximum security prison.

An online newspaper, Sahara Reporters, has recently reported these cases at the prison, which made the governor to appoint people into a committee saddled with unearthing the incident.

Shettima, in a tweet on his verified twitter handle, said the panel is to be chaired by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kaka Shehu Lawan, while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development will serve as secretary.

The governor’s tweet read: “I just came across this disturbing story reported by usually credible @saharareporters. I am immediately setting up a committee under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Justice and some key officials to visit the prisons, meet officials, investigate and report to me as soon as possible.”

Members of the Committee include Kaka Lawan, Hauwa Mai-Musa, Mohammed Umaru, Amina Mustafa Ibrahim, representative of the Nigerian Police Force, representative of the Director State Security (DSS), representative of the Controller of Nigeria Prisons Service, Borno State and Jummai Usman Mshelia.
