Agatu: Adviser Refutes Counter Killings of Fulanis
The recent accusation by Fulani leaders in Nasarawa State
that Agatu farmers attacked Fulani resident in the state which led to the death
of 20 headsmen and 80 cattle has been refuted by a Special Adviser to the Benue
State Governor on Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Isa Usman, who described
the statement as falsehood.
He said the accusers embarked on a baseless
propaganda to achieve self-piety for the Fulani people
Usman contended that both the Fulani leader of
Adayi community, Malam Bideri Ahmadu, and the Chief of Loko, Alhaji Abubakar
Sabo, in Nasarawa State are aware that there are 12 substantial settlement of
Agatu in the state where the Fulanis recently wreaked havoc and took over the
place.
According to him, Adayi village, where the alleged
incident took place, was among the destroyed settlement over run by the herders
earlier this year, wondering how the Agatu people who are scattered everywhere
could regroup to carry out such attack.
The special adviser to the governor insisted that
the allegations were cover up and a signal for another attack on his Agatu people
by the Fulani herdsmen as it is in their usual habit of raising unfounded
claims against Agatu before hitting the area.
Usman therefore urged security agencies to be
vigilant and conduct proper investigation into the matter before it escalates
even as he called on Governor Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State to disarm the
Fulanis in his domain of illegal weapons.
