Herdsmen: Buhari’s Govt Failing Nigerians, Says NANS

Herdsmen: Buhari’s Govt Failing Nigerians, Says NANS

…To form joint militia front against rampaging cattlemen

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), today lambasted the federal government over the level of insecurity allegedly created by rampaging Fulani herdsmen to the lives of many innocent Nigerians.

Ekiti State axis NANS lamented that the menace of the rampaging herdsmen portrays failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to provide adequate security for Nigerians.

It maintained that Buhari should be alive to his responsibility and live up to the expectation of the oath he sworn that he would rid the country of insurgents for people to embrace his change agenda.

A statement by the association leader, Cosmas  Awopeju, in Ado Ekiti  warned the marauding herdsmen to steer clear of Ekiti State, threatening that students and youths would resist attempt to extend the criminal and ‘senseless’ killings to the state.

Awopeju warned the security chiefs against treating the herdsmen as sacred cows, saying this has always been the reason
some herdsmen had been displaying arrogance and domineering tendencies
in their host communities.

He said it had directed all the students’ union governments in all the tertiary institutions in the state to nominate cadets and men for Students Joint Militia Front, to be trained to ward off any attack from the herdsmen.

“While we express our condolences to the families of those killed in
Benue, Enugu, Delta, Anambra and other states, we are baffled by the failure of the federal government to stop the destruction of farmlands, rape, armed robbery,  kidnapping  and most painfully, the massacre of innocent Nigerians by herdsmen.

“Most disturbing was the fact that students form very large percentage of the victims. If the federal government fails to secure our lives, we call on Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), all youth groups in the South-west and the Agbekoya Revolutionary Movement to be ready to defend the people from the aggressors.

“The appointment of the head of the militia front will be announced soon and all appropriate quarters will be communicated. If we must defend ourselves, we must start it now.

“We will continue to support the change agenda of the federal government, but the government must first protect our lives and property to enjoy our support,” he said.
