Unknown gunmen on Sunday assassinated a popular electronic dealer, Tochukwu, also known as Sunny Kris in Makurdi,  the Benue State capital.

The incident occurred at about 8p.m. while it was raining heavily.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident on phone to  reporters, the deceased had returned home from his shop which is located along Benue Crescent, hub of electronic dealers and distributors in Makurdi, when some persons broke into his house, robbed him and his wife of undisclosed amount of money.

"After robbing him, they left and Sunny hurried to go and report the incident at the 'B' division Police station, but unknown to him, the robbers trailed and shot him at Inikpi Street," Yamu stated.

An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said the deceased, while he was pursued  by the gun men,  shouted for help but it fell on deaf ears even as people who heard gunshots scampered for safety.

"I was at a beer parlor around the area drinking with some friends when I heard heavy gunshots and people ran helter-skelter for their dear lives. When I got to where the incident happened, the deceased was being rushed to an undisclosed hospital," he said.

Commenting on  the incident,  the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, lamented the assassination of Toochukwu describing it as ‘devilish.'

The governor reiterated the resolve of his government to secure lives and property of all Benue people.

"I will not fold my hands and allow hoodlums take over the state. We will pursue and fish them out. I urge residents to assist us report the whereabouts of these robbers,"  Ortom appealed.

This is the second murder in less than two weeks after the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Tavershima Adyorough, was assassinated in his resident by unknown gunmen.
