Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday said God will choose his successor to lead the state even as he disclosed that he has somebody in mind.
He however said enemies who didn’t want the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) to win the governorship were trying to cause disaffection between him and other governorship aspirants in the state, including
the former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
Fayose cautioned PDP faithful in the state against
sowing seeds of discord among aspirants and leadership of the party.
Adeyeye , the PDP Publicity National Secretary of the
Caretaker Committee, led by Ahmed Makarfi, is interested in the plum job.
A statement
issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka,
said Fayose sounded the note of warning during a meeting last Monday at his
Afao Ekiti residence with aspirants and leaders from Ikole, Ijero and Ise/Orun
council areas.
The governor said he had nothing against the aspirations
of those eyeing the state top seat, stressing that "followers need not
create a wedge between me and gubernatorial aspirants. As much as aspirants
have the right to aspire, I also reserve the right to support whoever God asks me
to support.
"If I were asked to pick a candidate to succeed
me, I would have picked Kayode Oso straight away. But I have called him into
the room and told him to allow me seek God's consent concerning it. I have called my deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola,
I have also called Bisi Omoyeni into the room and asked him to allow me seek
God's consent.
“Whoever God chooses among the aspirants, we will
support him. Whoever that is not the one, the spirit of sportsmanship should be
embraced.
"I have nothing against Adeyeye, and I have great
respect for him from ministerial appointment to chairmanship at Ekiti State University
and then his recommendation to the party at the national level, I have always
stood by him, I wouldn't have done that for someone I don't love, so mischief
makers had better looked elsewhere to play their game."
Fayose appealed to party members to downplay personal
agenda and ensure the party's interest is put on the front burner, adding that
"never will any candidate be imposed on the people.
"We won't allow anybody to destroy the goodwill enjoyed
presently by the PDP because there is no doubt about our party's popularity in the state today.
"I want to assure you that nobody will impose
anybody on you. With me here, you will all get justice,” he stated.
The governor, during the meeting with party members
from Ijero
Ekiti, also directed that about 23 members hitherto
suspended from the party be forgiven and reabsorbed into the party.

Police Arrest Eight for cultism in Anambra
David-Chyddy Eleke in Awka
No fewer than eight suspected cultists, among them two
girls and six boys, have been arrested for cultism in Anambra State.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of
yesterday at Ihiala, Ihiala Local Government Area of the state by the Special
Anti-cultism Squad(SPACS) of the state Police Command.
SPACS Commander, Christopher Bassey, a Chief
Superintendent of Police (CSP), who confirmed the arrest to journalists, blamed
negligence on the part of most parents and the crave for money as responsible
for the rot in the society.
The cultists, who confessed to be members of Vipers
and Junior Vikings Confraternity (JVC ), vowed to be of good behaviour if set
free.
Two of them, a boy and a girl, who said they were
siblings (names withheld), said they were students. They revealed they were led
into cultism by their friends.
Others who pleaded for forgiveness, were a girl and
five other boys, who were also students of
undisclosed schools in the state.
The SPACS Commander, Bassey, said: "Parents pay
more attention to pursuing money than their family and this gives the children
the opportunity to join bad companies."
He urged community leaders and others to always inform
the command of cultists and other criminal elements within their domain,
assuring them that their identities would be treated with uttermost
confidentiality.
The commander disclosed that they would be arraigned
in court after investigation has been concluded.
