Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday reiterated
the commitment of the federal government towards strengthening the economic and
industrial ties with the government of Japan and Malaysia in order to create
job opportunities for its populace.
Saraki made the disclosure in Ilorin, the Kwara State
capital, while receiving the delegation of the people of Kwara North senatorial
district led by Etsu of Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Chata Umar, at his country home,
Ilofa GRA, Ilorin, on a ‘thank you’ visit on the recent appointment of the two
sons of the district as ambassadors by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The designated diplomats are Professor Mohammed Gana
Yisa and Alhaji Nurudeen Nora Mohammed, who are indigenes of Kwara State. They are
former Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly and Commissioner for
Finance respectively from Kwara North senatorial district of the state.
According to Saraki, “The two countries in which Yisa
and Mohammed are deployed in are very crucial on the world political and
economic stage.”
He urged the ambassadors-designate to use the
opportunity conferred on them with the new appointments to strengthen
entrepreneurship through which jobs could be created for the teeming unemployed
youth back home.
The Senate President assured the diplomats of his
continued support while carrying out their assignment, maintaining that he is
confident about their ability to deliver on the task ahead of them.
The Senate president said: "Let me on behalf of all
of us congratulate our ambassadors, who are making history. They are going to
Malaysia and Japan, which are two important countries. In the world today,
these are opportunities where we see common issues that bring us, the two
countries (Nigeria and Malaysia) together, based on similarities that we have,
and it is a great opportunity for us to foster relationship, strengthen our
relationship with Malaysia and create opportunity for our youths in the area of
entrepreneurship and development.
"A lot of Nigerians who I know are looking for
opportunities to improve and come back home later. I'm happy that it is our
indigenes that will be representing Nigeria there. Same with Japan! Today, you
all know the G-7; it is strong economical and political group in United
Nations. Of course, anybody who is representing Nigeria there is very important
not only to Nigeria.
"As our royal fathers said, I seek that you see
your positions as ambassadors for our people; to be driven by passions in order
to help our people back at home. You are both experienced, you are both
competent, I have no doubt in my mind.
"We will continue to support you in any way we
can to facilitate and ensure that as you do your job, you make success of it.”
