The Federal Government on Monday declared that there is no confirmed case of Monkeypox virus in Lagos State.
The state Commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, had announced last week that there were two suspected cases of the virus in the state.
While addressing journalists in Abuja, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, disclosed that all the Monkey pox test samples obtained from the state were sent to the World Health Organisation (WHO’s) laboratory in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, and returned negative.
Adewole said: “Since our initial announcement, a total of 43 other suspected cases (of the virus) have been reported from eight other states — Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ekiti, Lagos, Enugu, Nasarawa, Rivers, and FCT. Of these, four cases from Lagos have also been tested and confirmed to be negative for the Monkeypox virus."
