The Ekiti State police Command on Thursday paraded three suspected traffickers who allegedly sold three girls to slavery in Libya using the name of the name of the state Deputy Governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola, to con the victims.

The suspects were Mr. Dada Ogundare and a prophetess in Ikere Ekiti, Mrs.  Omoseeke Komolafe, who collected money from their parents and gave same to the trafficking suspect.

The victims are Miss Dolapo Bamise,  Miss. Titilope Olorunfemi and Ayomiotan Adedayo.

At the scene of the parade, one of the parents, Mrs. Margaret Olorunfemi, revealed that she and Prophetess Komolafe are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the same ward with the state deputy governor in Ikere-Ekiti.

Olorunfemi disclosed that Prophetess Komolafe told her daughter that the deputy governor has been given four slots which would be given to children of party members in his ward to travel to Dubai, adding that they were told to make N150,000 available to facilitate the trip.

According to her, “My child called that the prophetess had sold her into slavery that we should go and meet the deputy governor that we should get N1.2 million before they can be freed from slavery.”

Another Ikere woman whose daughter was trapped in a Libyan slave camp, Mrs. Feyisayo Adedayo, revealed that her daughter is pregnant.

“She (daughter) is my only girl and my last born; I reported the case at the police station in Ikere. I want my daughter back because I don’t want her to die in slave camp.”

The suspected trafficker, Ogundare, told journalists that she contacted the prophetess to help her find girls interested in jobs in Libya, claiming that he didn’t collect money from the victims.

“I didn’t collect any money from anybody. I have so far taken four persons to Libya while madam (prophetess) had taken nine to Libya,” he stated.

The state Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Mr. Julius Okoro, warned parents against allowing their children to embark on questionable trips.

“The girls were trafficked to Libya on the pretext that they were taking them to Dubai. Information reached their parents that they are suffering and they had been sold out in the slave camp in Libya.

“Our advice to parents is that they should be careful of those they entrust their children to. Let them be careful and be sure of the persons they are handing over their children to,” he said.

Meanwhile, a letter from the Lawyer to the victim’s parents, Mr. Dele Adefisayo  to the commissioner of police clarified that the suspects only used Olusola’s name to dupe the victims.

Adefisayo, in the letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police entitled: ‘Complaint or Abduction and Human Trafficking Committed by Mrs. Nike Akomolafe and Mr. Dada Simeon’, said: "I have the instruction of Mrs. Helen Bamise , Fesisayo Adedara and Madam Margret Olorunfemi (herein refer to as "my clients") to write this petition.

“My clients are sister, and mother to Miss Dolapo Bamise and Miss. Titilope Olorunfemi respectively, who were lured into a purported ‘traveling abroad arrangement’ by Mrs. Nike Akomolafe. They are among other victims of this purported travelling abroad arrangement which later turned out to be abduction and human trafficking.”

In a separate letter addressed to the state Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, Adefisayo said: "My clients, Mrs. Helen Bamise, Madam Margret Olorunfemi and Madam Feyisayo Adedara,  are not satisfied with the way the police are handling the matter.

"This letter serves to inform the Ekiti State Government of the purported involvement of the deputy governor in the matter. This is an insult on the personality of the deputy governor as we believe that his purported involvement is untrue and a ruse to cover up the illegality committed by the duo of Mrs. Nike Akomolafe and Mr. Simeon Dada."
