The Nigerian Army has dislodged a group of unidentified gunmen during an attack that took place along the Benue-Nassarawa state border during which one of the gunmen was killed.
The force in a statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, said they were alerted to the presence of the group while on a joint clearance operation in the area.
Usman said the criminals were setting houses on fire in Igacha village, about 4 kilometers away from Kadarko town adding that troops of 72 Special Forces Battalion and 177 Guards Battalion responded immediately by mobilising to the area to stop the arson and apprehend the perpetrators.
He stated that on sighting the officers, the gunmen abandoned their mission, scampering for safety in different directions and it was in the process that one of them was shot and killed while the others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The Army PRO revealed that a cordon and search operation is still in progress in the general area with the view of tracking the fleeing armed criminals.
He however, appealed to residents of the area to be on the lookout for such wounded persons and report any relevant information to the security agencies.
