The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has said the
party is in consultation with other 35 political parties with pledged support,
commitment and dedication to build a better secured and economically viable
Nigeria
This was made known on Wednesday by the National
Chairman of the SDP, Chief Olu Falae, and the Chairman of the Committee of
Concerned Political Parties (CCPP), Dr. Breakforth Abraham, in Abuja.
Speaking at the end their meeting, Falae said SDP
had a very good deliberation with the CCPP, saying they had decided to work
together in order to find lasting solutions to Nigeria's various problems.
He added that all the parties involved would work
out a blue print for the way forward and collectively find a way to the issues
of insecurity, unemployment and other numerous problems.
Falae added: “Standing before you are chairmen of
CCPP. We are 36 and we have been consulting one another since February this
year. We are very concerned about the situation in Nigeria-political, economic,
social and security.
“We just had
a brief meeting in continuation of our dialogue/consultations then work out a
blue print; identify implementable development and effective solutions to the
problems confronting our country. We are going to set up a committee to work on
a common blue print for the survival, growth, progress and unity.’’
He described as alarming, the security and
unemployment crisis in the country, saying: "Where I live, I’m very
worried that the security is much tense; unemployment is frightening; many
people have become beggars in well blessed and endowed Nigeria."
On his part,
Breakforth who spoke on behalf of the 35 chairmen, acknowledged what Falae
stated, disclosing that when the time is right, they will avail Nigerians of
their plans to move Nigeria forward.
"We were initially 42 political parties but
presently, we are 36, as some have left for other coalitions. And these 36
political parties are committed and dedicated to the course of unity and
prosperity of this country.
“SDP is a founding member of CCPP; we are here to
discuss, and like he said, we have discussed; we have dialogued and we planned
to set up a committee to strategise on
common ground on how to move Nigeria forward.
“We as the political
party leaders are very concerned about the security, unity and prospects of
this country and the future of Nigeria. We will make sure that we invite you in
the next meeting so that you can get the progress report."
