Kano State Command of the Nigeria
Immigration Service (NIS) in Kano State on Tuesday paraded eight victims of
human trafficking who came from Edo and Delta States enroute Kano to Niger
Republic to Libya to Italy in search of greener posture abroad.
Parading the victims who were all
females, the state Commandant of the NIS, Alhaji Ishag Yusuf, said his men were
on the trail of both the agents who are Nigeriens and the victims since they
received intelligence report concerning their movement until their arrival in
Kano where they fall into the dragnet of the command.
Yusuf said although the agents have
run away and abandoned the victims, the command would extend the long arms of
the law and apprehend them where ever is their hideout.
The Kano immigration boss faulted parents for not taking their
parental obligations seriously thereby allowing their wards to take inappropriate
decision in life.
"It will interest you to know
that it is some of the parents that are even encouraging their Children to
leave this Country with the belief that their lives would be better while in
the foreign country," he said.
Yusuf said it is not true that some
of these Countries are better than Nigeria most atimes victims are only
dehumanised and reduced to Sex Machines that is if they arrived their
target destinations safely.
He said in a situation where by
they failed to make it to Europe, they would be abandoned in the Niger, Libya,
Mali deserts and met their untimely death.
"Therefore the Kano Command
will no longer allow the state to serve as a trasit state, we will do our best
to enlighten victims, we are in touch with
NAPTIP an agency responsible for fight against human trafficking we will asked
them to train the victims on various vocational trades of their choice for them
to be on their feets"
“I believe with good skills they will have economic engagement but greener
posture with unskilled labour will only amount to waste of human beings.and that is why they are being raped, enslaved and subjected to
inhuman condition”.
In an interview with one of the
victims who did not want her name to be
in print described the situation they found themselves in as very
pathetic.
They added that the agents deceived
them to part them with lump sum of Money amounting to One Hundred and Fifty
Thousand Naira (150, 000 ) each and would balance them Six million Naira dollar
equivalent when in Italy.
