Governor Okowa's Aide Denies Shooting at Senator Omo-Agege

As the controversy over the alleged attempt on the life of the senator representing Delta Central, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, rages on, the Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Youth Development, Mr Lawrence Ngozi Akpomiemie, has refuted the allegation that he shot at the Senator during an event in Effurun on July 15, 2017.

He stated that the Senator in collaboration with his agents has been spreading falsehood against his person, adding that he (Senator Omo-Agege) should think of better things that will promote the peaceful atmosphere Deltans are enjoying than resort to cheap blackmails.

Akpomiemie disclosed that he was on a private visit to the office of Delta State Commissioner of Police for a discussion with his Personal Assistance (PA) on the said date and time the alleged shooting of Senator Omo-Agege took place.

He disclosed that he believed his name must have only been manufactured by persons who do not know his true identity, stressing that with his position as the Special Assistant to the governor, he would not stoop so low to get involved in any activity capable of tarnishing the image of his family and that of the state government that employed him.

Akpomiemie further pointed that, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was probably tying to incriminate innocent political opponents he considered threats to his political ambition in Uvwie Local Government Area.

“This baseless allegation is just a false claim being created by the distinguished Senator to score cheap political point”, he stated.

In the light of the raging controversy of the alleged calculated attack on Senator Omo-Agege, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Zanna Ibrahim, last Monday cautioned against heating up the polity especially through unguarded and provocative statements by some politicians in the state.

The state police command spokesman, Mr Andrew Chiamaka, quoted the police commissioner as saying that the command would investigate every case case involving attempt on life to its logical conclusion.

Ibrahim also dismissed as erroneous certain reports in a section of the media that tended to paint the picture that the state police command had denied or faulted the claims by the senator of a foiled attempt on his life in Effurun.

The police commissioner in a statement by the state police command spokesman, Mr Andrew Chiamaka, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) stressed “that the Command had at no time disclosed to journalists or any member of the public that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator representing Delta Central constituency, lied.”
