Three persons have been quarantined in Jos at various hospitals following a fresh outbreak of Lassa fever in Plateau State which has claimed one life.

The outbreak was first observed at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) when a patient, an engineer, who was in the state on official duty, became ill and was admitted in the hospital.

The engineer was later taken to Our Lady Apostle (OLA) Hospital in Jos before he was eventually moved to the National Hospital in Abuja where he later died.

Sources at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) in Jos said one of the medical personnel who treated the deceased patient while in Jos was among the three persons being quarantined at the teaching hospital where he is under observation for possible infection.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kuden Kamsha, while confirming it on Thursday, said the state government was aware of the outbreak and was doing all it could to contain it.

Kamsha said: "We are aware of the outbreak. Three people had contact with the deceased patient and have been quarantined. I will give you details later because I am on my way to Abuja."
