The Managing Director Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Mr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, has said the company is partnering Shell Foundation which is investing $2 billion in the electricity company in the next three years.

Gwamna explained that the multi-billion investment of the Shell Foundation is aimed at boosting the services of the company.

The Managing Director disclosed this yesterday in Kano while inaugurating 170 new 500 KVA transformers for the three franchise areas of Katsina, Kano and Jigawa States.

He further revealed that the distribution firm is going to commence the sale of prepaid metres to the public next month in order to arrest customers’ complaints of undue billing through the old system.

The Kano Disco boss explained that the prepaid metres are going to be of two categories with the three-phased metre costing N69,000 while the one-phased metre costs N37,000 both of which would be acquired from the Metre Assets Providers unit of the company.

Other items launched were operational facilities, 60 buses, cars, ambulances and other facilities.

He said they inherited a dilapidated system of power supply which required huge investments, and over the last five years, they have invested billions of naira in enhancing power supply to customers.

Gwamna called on the customers to reciprocate the services being rendered by the company by endeavouring to pay their bills accordingly.

He explained that in the next few weeks, they would launch the sales of meters in their franchise areas of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa State, urging anybody wishing to have one to pay upfront in their offices across the states.

The managing director added that with the way they are going, KEDCO would soon be one of the best distribution companies in Nigeria, while commending the company staff for their diligence.
