Operatives of the Edo State Police Command  on Monday killed two suspected armed robbers in a gun duel at Ekehuan, Egor Local Government Area of the state.

The robbers were alleged to have engaged the policemen in gun fire during a robbery operation near Asoro area.

A member of the robbery gang, simply known as Junior, was said to have escaped.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danmallam Mohammed, who confirmed the report, said they were killed when they (robbers) were trying to escape as a result of the superior fire power of the police.

He alleged that the police operatives in the area responded to a distress call by a Nigerian on Monday morning which resulted to the two armed robbers being killed and their guns and ammunition recovered.

According to the CP, "There was a distress call to the police, who therefore responded and met them in the act.

"So when they saw the police, they started firing at them (policemen) and the police responded and killed them."

The state police boss appealed to members of the public to continue to collaborate with the police by way of volunteering information that could lead to the arrest of criminals in order to rid the state of crimes.
