Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing 2 Children in
Delta
Today, a suspected male criminal, 26, was arrested by the police in Delta State for allegedly stealing two infants at a
community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Onuwa Okafor, was
alleged to have lured away a boy, Chinoso Osakwe aged four and a little girl,
Chinaza Nwakanma,3.
The state police spokesperson, Mrs. Celestina
Kalu (DSP), said the incident occurred last Thursday morning at Atuma-Iga in
Oshimili North, near the state capital of Asaba.
The two victims were, however, rescued when
suspicious community members confronted the suspect and he could not give
satisfactory answer when asked about the two children with him.
Kalu noted that the suspect had actually been
beaten into a pulp when a patrol team of policemen from Issele-Uku arrived at the
scene, rescuing the suspect from the angry mob.
The suspect was eventually taken to the General
Hospital Issele-Uku for treatment while the children were also kept in
"protective custody" pending the time their parents would come for
them.
In another development, police arrested two
suspected members of a four-man armed robbery gang that reportedly robbed some
staff of Delta State University Abraka on June 13, 2015, at the residence along
DELSU Campus 4 Road, Abraka.
However, the suspected robbers were given away
when a girl, identified as Miss Ozuwo Ajiri Julius, was allegedly seen in
Abraka with "one of the stolen handsets, a Galaxy S4 belonging to Mr
Ogbonna Ikechukwu Austin (one of the June 13 night robbery).
The girl allegedly told the said Ikechukwu that
her boyfriend gave the phone to her, leading to the eventual arrest of one Wale
Moses, the police said.
A confessional statement by the said Wale Moses
also led to the arrest of another suspect, identified a Israel Omogbai.
The Delta PPRO, Mrs Kalu, today said the police
were after the two remaining members of the gang still at large as their names
had been given out by the two arrested armed robbery suspects.
